1,000 Paws of Great Falls – Blu
“We picked Blu up in 
May right before my birthday and brought him home. He immediately checked out the house and then promptly fell asleep on my lap. We’ve been family ever since. Blu was labeled “goofball” at the shelter and we had no idea just how goofy this little guy was going to be! He makes us laugh all day long. He is actually the cuddliest dog either of us have ever met and we LOVE it so much. I actually transitioned to work from home in September so I call Blu my coworker. He absolutely loves having attention all day long. Plus he gets to go play fetch at the park every morning which he very much reminds me of if I don’t get around to it until the afternoon.
Blu used to be really quiet for the first few months. Not even a peep! But now that he’s home with his mama every day, he’s become quite the chatty dog. He’s really great at communicating and it definitely feels like I have a little human at home with me all day. Blu didn’t know what toys were for the first few months he was home, but then his cousin dog quickly taught him how to play. Now we play fetch and frisbee and he can always be found curled up with his toys in his bed when he falls asleep.
Blu also gets to spend a lot of time on Castle’s family farm with his buddy, Chaka (our friend’s dog). They run for hours at the farm together and they like to track down little rabbits and other critters. Blu is definitely still cautious around dogs he doesn’t know. We were told he used to fight with his brother a lot. So, we took it slow and introduced him to one dog at a time and tried to spend a lot of time with that dog until they became comfortable. He now has 4 dog friends that he’s really comfortable around. As long as we keep his food, his bed, and his toys up and out of reach, he’s still learning to share. But he’s gotten so much better and less anxious!
Blu used to be incredibly preyed driven. He would see a squirrel and just shake like crazy. But this little guy is so smart and learned he doesn’t need to chase prey. We let him chase to his heart’s content on the farm, but around the neighborhood and the park, he’s learned incredible recall skills! He’s seen cats, squirrels, rabbits etc. and the second we call him back, he runs to us and sits down. We didn’t teach him that, I think it’s just because we’ve built a lot of trust with him and that just feels amazing.
We love Blu so much! He’s become such a huge part of the family, I can’t even remember what it was like before him! He is such a happy pup!”
