The Adoption Process

Our adoption process is simplified and consists of three major steps; The application and paperwork, meeting with the animal you want to adopt, and the adoption paperwork.

1. Fill our an adoption application. This can be completed online, by clicking below. The application consists of questions regarding your current housing and living situation This helps us ensure that the animal that you are adopting is well suited for your home and lifestyle, resulting in a sustained and happy adoption. We require to see a form of identification, as well as proof of address. Once the application is complete, we have all applicants complete a "Meet Your Match" survey. 3. Adopt the animal! When you find the animal you would like to adopt, the Front Desk employee with walk you through the cost of adoption and the adoption contract. You will receive a folder with the animal's medical history, vaccines, contact information, and a guidebook to your new pet. You will get sent home with a bag of the animal's current food, to avoid stomach problems if switching food.

2. Meet with the animal you are interested. Once all parts of the first step are complete, you are able to meet with the animal you are interested in. You are brought into a room with yourself, the animal, and a staff member. The staff member will answer any questions you have, and let you know the information about the animal.

The Surrender Process

Thinking you need to surrender your animal? Before surrender, we suggest you click below and learn about behavior and training tips. If you need to surrender due to financial issues, please click the financial assistance button below.

1. The first step in the surrender process is to fill out a surrender application. Before filling this out, we recommend that you click here, to read about what animals we are able to accept, and what animals we are unable to accept.

2. Once your surrender application is accepted, the next step is to stop by the Center. When you arrive, you MUST leave you animal in the vehicle. Enter the building, without your animal, and speak with the staff member at the Front Desk. This staff member will give you further instructions.

3. The Vet Assistant will perform a quick intake exam on your animal. If we are able to accept your animal, she will let the Front Desk employee know. There is a $25 fee per animal, and a $50 per litter that is surrendered to us.

Our staff understands that sometimes situations are out of your control, and you are unable to continue caring for you animal. Our staff would never judge a member of the public for surrendering their animal to us. We understand that it may be tempting to surrender you animal as a stray, but it is so important that the information we receive is true and correct. The surrender application gives our staff an enormous amount of information on the animal and its history, unlike the stray form. In order to provide the best care we can for your animal, please bring your animal as a surrender, not a stray. We are judgment free zone and understand that situations happen, it is never easy to surrender an animal.

The Stray Intake Process

We take stray animals inside and outside of Cascade County. If you find a stray animal, please read below for more information on the process, and what is considered a stray.

If the animal you found is a cat, please click here for information on feral cats, stray cats, who to tell the difference, and more. As an adoption center, we are unable to accept feral animals, who cannot be adopted out.

1. Once you have found the animal, transport it the MC-AAC. Once you arrive, please live the animal inside your vehicle while you speak to the staff member at the Front Desk.

2. You will be asked to fill out a stray form. This tells the staff where you found the animal, when you found, if it had a collar or any other identification, and an approximate age and gender.

3. The Front Desk will give you instruction on where to bring the animal for the intake exam. The Vet Assistant will make sure the animal is healthy and adoptable, as well as get an initial option on age, gender, etc.

Stray animals are held at the Center for the legally required time frame. If the animal is not claimed within that timeframe, it will become available for adoption.
